What Visa’s do I need?

There are several types of working Visas issued through the British High Commission to allow you to work in the UK. Here are the two most common ones.

Two year working holiday Visa
You are a Commonwealth Citizen.
You are aged between 17 and 30 years inclusive (if you are already 30years old you must apply before you turn 31).
You want to come to the UK to take employment as an integral part of a working holiday.
You can support and accommodate yourself without help from public funds.
You have the means to pay for your return, or onward journey.
You plan to leave the UK at the end of your working holiday.
You must declare any criminal convictions you may have at the time you make your application. Certain convictions may prevent you from being issued with a visa. You will need to provide details of the conviction and evidence that any fines imposed have been paid in full.
If married, is married to a person who qualifies as a Working Holidaymaker and with whom the applicant intends to take the Working Holiday. (If your spouse is a British Citizen - please contact the British High Commission for advice).
If you have a child or children accompanying you to the UK as a working holidaymaker, you should be aware that you and the child(ren) must leave the UK before the child's 5th birthday.


Ancestral Working Visa
Commonwealth citizens, 17 years of age and over.
Those who have a grandparent who was born in the UK or Islands.
Those who have a grandparent that was born in what is now the Republic of Ireland prior to 31 March 1922.
You are able to and intend to take or seek employment in the UK.
You are able to maintain and accommodate yourself and any dependants adequately without recourse to public funds.


How do I apply for a Visa and what is required?


To qualify for a Visa you need to have the following.You can apply through the consulate by sending your application or you can apply online.


Working holidaymaker Visa

Complete Form VAF1 (answer all questions).
A recent passport-sized photograph of yourself (clear and of good quality, full face only taken against a light coloured background).
Current and previous passports.
Proof of funds (e.g. bank statements with name and account number, ATM slips are not acceptable unless this information is shown).


Ancestral Working Visa

Complete Form VAF1 (answer all questions).
A recent passport-sized photograph of yourself (clear and of good quality, full face only taken against a light coloured background).
Current and any previous passports.
Your full, original birth certificate.
Your full, original marriage certificate issued by the Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages (if applicable).
The full, original birth certificate of the relevant parent.
The full, original birth certificate of the relevant UK born grandparent (paternal or maternal).
Evidence that you intend to work in the UK or proof of funds if you have not arranged employment.


Apply for Visa online

It is not nessecary to fill out the form VAF1 if you apply online.


What passport is required?


To travel to you UK you must have a valid passport. It is also reccommended that your passport should not be due to expire while you are away.
